A little insight
Southeast Asia is famous for its vibrant cultures, busy cities, stunning beaches, and lush landscapes. While destinations like Bangkok, Bali, and Ho Chi Minh City often steal the spotlight, there are plenty of hidden gem destinations that remain lesser-known but are equally deserving of your attention. These five destinations are close to my heart because I’ve personally explored them, and I can’t recommend them enough for your 2025 travel plans and summer bucket-list!
1. Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an enchanting blend of ancient temples, colonial architecture, and serene riverside landscapes. Nestled at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers, this charming town exudes tranquility and is the perfect escape from the more touristy spots in Southeast Asia. During my visit, I spent my evenings wandering through the night markets, and afternoons exploring the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls, which are as peaceful as they are beautiful.
WHERE TO STAY: For a cozy and authentic stay, I recommend the Villa Oasis Hotel. It’s a serene retreat with a breakfast area surrounded by lily pads!
MUST-DO ACTIVITY: Don’t miss the early morning alms-giving ceremony, where monks collect offerings from locals. It’s a beautiful cultural experience that connects you to the spiritual heart of Laos.
TIP: The town is small enough to walk around, but I highly recommend bringing some comfortable shoes for exploring the temples.

2. Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap is a destination that every traveler should visit at least once. It’s the gateway to the world-renowned Angkor Wat temple complex, but there’s so much more to this charming city than its ancient ruins. During my stay, I was lucky enough to explore the lesser-known temples, such as Ta Prohm (made famous by Tomb Raider) and the peaceful Banteay Srei. What truly captured my heart was Siem Reap’s vibrant night markets, delicious street food, and welcoming locals.
WHERE TO STAY: For a laidback stay just outside the extensive nightlife, check out Chheng Residence. It offers spacious rooms, a peaceful pool, and is walking distance to all of the fun of Pub Street.
MUST-DO ACTIVITY: Take a sunrise tour of Angkor Wat to watch the golden sun rise over the majestic temple. It’s a surreal and unforgettable experience.
TIP: Be prepared for long days exploring the temples, so I recommend packing a water bottle to stay hydrated.

3. Nha Trang, vietnam

Nha Trang is a coastal city that offers a perfect blend of beach relaxation and cultural exploration. Nha Trang offers a quieter and more laid-back atmosphere with stunning beaches and warm waters. I had an incredible time lounging the Beach, and taking a boat trip to the nearby islands was one of the highlights of my trip. The local food is also a must-try, but I will have to write another blog about that, there are way too many amazing places to include here!
WHERE TO STAY: If you’re looking for a relaxing stay by the beach, The Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel & Spa is a top choice. It offers incredible beachfront views and top-notch amenities.
MUST-DO ACTIVITY: Take a day trip to the nearby Vinpearl Land, an island amusement park with water slides, an aquarium, and beautiful beaches, perfect for both families and couples.
TIP: Don’t forget your reef-safe sunscreen and a durable backpack for your beach adventures.

4. Ao nang, thailand

Ao Nang is a small resort town located in Krabi Province, and it’s perfect for those who want to explore Thailand’s natural beauty while avoiding the crowds. The picturesque coastline, stunning limestone cliffs, and proximity to islands like Phi Phi and Railay make Ao Nang the ideal base for an adventure. I spent my days exploring Ao Nang’s various beaches, taking a scuba certification course, and enjoying the local seafood at beachfront restaurants.
WHERE TO STAY: For a blend of luxury and proximity to the beach, Kokotel Krabi Ao Nang offers comfortable rooms, great views, and easy access to Ao Nang Beach.
MUST-DO ACTIVITY: Take a long-tail boat to the nearby Phi Phi Islands, where you can snorkel, hike to stunning viewpoints, and enjoy the incredible beauty of this famous island chain.
TIP: Take a long walk to the end of the beach where you will find monkeys and a pathway to another more secluded beach!

5. coron, Philippines

Coron is one of the most beautiful islands I’ve ever visited. Known for its crystal-clear lagoons, dramatic cliffs, and World War II wreck diving sites, Coron offers both adventure and relaxation. I spent most of my time island hopping to places like Kayangan Lake (often cited as the clearest lake in the Philippines) and exploring some of the amazing wrecks left by WWII ships. Coron is also a paradise for snorkelers and divers, with coral reefs teeming with marine life.
Where to Stay: For a cozy stay with easy access to the main town, the Vienna Hotel is a perfect choice. It offers an incredible mix of laid back downtime, comfort, and beautiful views.
Must-Do Activity: Take a boat tour to explore Coron’s lagoons, beaches, and hidden coves. Don’t miss the chance to dive or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters around the sunken ships.
Tip: Since Coron is best explored by boat, bring a waterproof phone case for your underwater adventures.
