If you’re building a South America bucket list, Iguazú Falls deserves a top spot — and it’s far more accessible than you might think.
If you’re traveling through Argentina and wondering whether Iguazú Falls is worth the extra planning — the answer is a very enthusiastic yes. Located in the far northeast of the country, Iguazú Falls is one of the most impressive natural wonders in South America, made up of hundreds of powerful waterfalls surrounded by lush jungle.
What surprised me most wasn’t just how massive and breathtaking the falls are, but how easy and affordable it was to visit them from Buenos Aires. I managed to fly in, stay overnight, experience the iconic boat ride into the falls, and return to Buenos Aires within a couple of days — without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Whether you’re short on time, visiting Argentina for the first time, or trying to plan an efficient itinerary that doesn’t sacrifice experience, Iguazú Falls fits surprisingly well into a Buenos Aires-based trip. In this guide, I’m sharing exactly how I visited Iguazú Falls, what to expect inside the national park, and why booking the right type of tour can make this one of the most seamless — and unforgettable — experiences in Argentina.

Why Iguazú Falls is worth the trip
Iguazú Falls isn’t just another waterfall — it’s a full sensory experience. The sound hits you before the view does. The mist rises into the air. And when you finally see the scale of it, it’s hard to process just how massive it is.
Made up of hundreds of cascades stretching across the border of Argentina and Brazil, Iguazú feels less like a single landmark and more like an entire landscape shaped by water. What makes it especially worth the trip is how immersive the Argentina side is — you’re not just observing from a distance, you’re walking directly above and beside the falls.
For me, it easily became one of the most memorable highlights of my time in Argentina.
The Best way to visit Iguazú falls from Buenos Aires
The most efficient way I found to visit Iguazú Falls was by booking a package through a local travel agency or tour operator in Buenos Aires. Everything was bundled together — flights, transfers, park entry, guided tour, and accommodation — which made the trip incredibly seamless. I flew from Buenos Aires, stayed one night near the falls, spent the following day exploring Iguazú National Park, stayed a second night, and flew back the next evening. The package even allowed me to choose my hotel tier, which directly influenced the overall price. It was flexible, affordable, and perfect for a short trip.
If you’re visiting Argentina for the first time or working with limited time, this kind of structured package makes planning simple while still allowing you to fully experience the falls.

If you’re spending a few days exploring Buenos Aires first, Iguazú makes an unforgettable extension to your trip. If you’re looking for more budget friendly options I recommend booking your own flights from Buenos Aires to Iguazú through Skyscanner, as this was also a very affordable option!
What to expect at Iguazú National Park
Iguazú National Park Argentina is extremely well organized and surprisingly easy to navigate. The park is made up of different circuits connected by elevated walkways that give you constantly changing views of the waterfalls.
You can expect:
- Wide panoramic viewpoints
- Close-up perspectives where you feel the spray
- Flat, accessible walking paths
- Lush jungle scenery and wildlife throughout
One of the highlights is standing above Devil’s Throat (Garganta del Diablo), the most powerful section of the falls. The water crashes down with such force that mist rises high into the air — it’s dramatic, loud, and completely unforgettable.
You could easily spend a full day exploring without feeling bored or rushed.

Boat Ride Experience: Is it worth it?
Yes — without hesitation.
The boat ride takes you directly toward the base of the falls, and at full speed you drive straight into the cascading water. You will get completely soaked, but that’s part of what makes it so fun and exhilarating. I chose to add the photo and video package, and I’m genuinely glad I did. It’s nearly impossible to film properly yourself once the water starts pouring down around you, so having professional footage of the experience was worth it.

If you’re debating whether to include the boat ride, I’d recommend budgeting for it. It transforms the visit from scenic to unforgettable. This experience is often offered as an optional add-on when booking tours or tickets, and it’s one upgrade I’d absolutely recommend budgeting for.
Where to Stay near Iguazú falls
Most visitors stay in Puerto Iguazú, the small town closest to the falls. It offers a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hotels to more upscale jungle-style properties. One of the benefits of booking through a tour operator was being able to choose my accommodation tier ahead of time. This flexibility allowed me to match the trip to my budget without sacrificing convenience and complete a 2 day Iguazú trip. However, if you’re feeling more independent and aren’t into organized tours, you can choose your journey and check out stays in Puerto Iguazú, and book your airport transfer here!
